About Us

Peterson Farms is a fully integrated, privately owned poultry company with headquarters in Decatur, Arkansas. Founded in 1939 by Lloyd Peterson, the company is primarily known for its genetic research and its production of top-quality breeder poultry, but Peterson Farms is also the parent company of a Processing Division, Peterson LP Gas, L&L Farms and Decatur General Store.
Peterson Farms has more than 1,000 employees at its Decatur facilities. We have four hatcheries with a combined capacity to hatch more than 2 million eggs per week. These hatcheries allow us to provide chicks to local growers (who supply our processing division). In addition, we have a state-of-the art feed mill that manufactures approximately 9,500 tons of finished feed per week and has a capacity of up to 12,000 tons per week.

Peterson Farms Processing

Peterson Farms began broiler processing in 1963 and now markets more than 1.3 million broilers weekly, which are sold under the Peterson Farms brand and distributed to restaurants, retail chains, and food service enterprises across the United States. Peterson Farms processed chicken is an integral part of the Peterson Farms complex, allowing the company to breed, hatch, grow and process poultry products for the world.

Peterson Farms LP Gas Company

Peterson LP Gas Company was established by Lloyd Peterson to help local poultry growers heat their chicken houses in winter. Today, Peterson LP Gas serves poultry growers in Arkansas, Missouri and Oklahoma.

L&L Farms

L&L Farms, the branch of Peterson Farms devoted to cattle research, was created in 1961 primarily as a means to use the abundance of fertile grazing land owned by Lloyd Peterson. Years of experience in poultry genetic research have been directly applied to the development of Peterson's Polled Santa Gertrudis breed. Just as Peterson Industries has become internationally respected for its broiler breeding stock, L&L farms has gained the same respect for its Polled Santa Gertrudis cattle.

Decatur General Store

Lloyd Peterson established Decatur General Store in 1980 because he believed the residents of his hometown shouldn't have to leave town to find convenient shopping and low prices. Decatur General Store has since become the center point of town, where people come to visit as well as to shop. Decatur General Store has over 20,000 sq. ft. of retail space with a full time pharmacy and a wide range of departments designed to meet the surrounding communities needs. DGS specializes in the sale of poultry supplies, hardware, lawn & garden supplies, livestock medicine, plumbing and electric supplies, paint and painting supplies, sporting goods, and auto parts.

Peterson Farms Fitness Center

At Peterson Farms, we have an obligation to educate employees about effective health care and healthy lifestyles. That's why we opened the Peterson Farms Fitness Center in 1991. Located next to our headquarters in downtown Decatur, the Fitness Center offers a variety of exercise and recreation opportunities. The Fitness Center offers free weights, Cybex weight machines, treadmills, stair climbers, swimex, basketball, volleyball and racquetball courts as well as saunas and an aerobics room. Our fitness counselors help guide our employees and their families to take care of themselves and improve their health.
